Sustainability

One Health / One Welfare
Today, it is widely recognised that human, animal and plant health are inextricably linked, both to each other and to the health of the ecosystems which they cohabitate.
International organisations are calling to address global health issues under the approach of One Health. One Health is particularly concerned with issues of zoonotic diseases, food security and food safety, and antimicrobial resistance. Its emphasis on multi-disciplinarity and collaborative work between all involved stakeholders has multiple benefits, like disease prevention and cost reduction.
The One Health concept has recently been extended and complemented by the concept of One Welfare. One Welfare extends the One Health concept to include the nexus and synergies between the welfare of people, animals and the environment. It could help improve food security through increased productivity, or reduce human suffering (e.g., abuse of vulnerable people) by recognising.
